Walking on the Beacon Street Trail

At the end of Beacon Street (near the Town Garage) is a barrier to prevent motor vehicles for continuing. This is a fine hiking and biking trail.
Look for the line marked "Access Road" on this photo

One of the attractions of this trail is the rapid changes from swampy forest, to swamp, to sand pit, to dry forest. In the space of a mile it seems like you experience a lot of changes.

This is one big swamp (on the right)

The trail is flooded this year.

Panning to the right at the swamp

At a certain point, you can turn left or right, and Stony Brook School is within sight. You choose, sand pits to the left, trail to East Boston Camps to the right.

They are building more condos near the school. Notice the vast sand pits.

Taking the branch to the right, continuing for about half a mile, there is a left turn. Turn left to get to the East Boston Camp area. You end up just under the "B" in label "Burge's Pond" in the aerial photo at the top of this page.

There is lots to explore out on this trail.
